Burgmans is considered a self-taught artist though she has followed art classes in many different disciplines such as ceramics, drawing, master classes painting, glass blowing and print making. Moving to the United States in 2003 brought an important boost to her art career.
In California she followed master classes in painting and printmaking and took successfully part in so-called juried shows (in California, Texas, New York etc.). She had her first solo exhibition in October 2004. Burgmans has spent much of her career in California, currently she works from her studio in Hilversum, Netherlands. Her work is internationally collected in corporate and private collections. Dutch and American Film producers such as Touchstone, Paramount en Warner Brothers use Burgmans’ art works in their productions.
Burgmans' art style has undergone an evolution. Her works currently consists of wall reliefs and abstract paintings. Previously she was working figurative, but always taken into abstraction. During all those years she has worked in series. She would be studying and pushing a subject and approaching it from different sides. Most of her series where focused on nature, such as a shell series, the series ‘The taste of nature’ (consisting paintings with coffee beans, pineapples , tealeaves etc.), the series ‘Normaal Amsterdams Peil’ paintings symbolizing the struggle of the Dutch with the water levels, an extended tree series etc. Since 2017 Burgmans focusses entirely on abstract works, in which she plays with lines, light and shadows.
